The advent of Viagra offers a beacon of hope, promising a return to a fulfilling sex life.

Viagra has been a trusted medication for ED for decades. Viagra is now available through licensed online pharmacies, offering a convenient and practical option. With this convenience comes the responsibility of ensuring you use the medication correctly and safely. In today’s post, we will help you understand more about ED and how to take Viagra properly to get the best results. As a bonus, we have also added some tips on how you can save on the cost of Viagra.

Viagra for Erectile Dysfunction

ED is more than just an erection problem since it can affect your self-confidence and overall quality of life. Many men are quite hesitant to discuss this issue since it can be embarrassing, but ED needs to be addressed so it can be managed appropriately.

If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms, please see a qualified medical provider right away for diagnosis and to get the corresponding treatment:

  • Difficulty getting an erection
  • Difficulty keeping an erection
  • Inconsistent performance
  • Reduced libido or sexual desire

During your doctor’s consultation, they will review your medical and sexual history, obtain a list of your medications or supplements, assess your lifestyle practices, and may also perform a physical exam. In some cases, additional tests, such as laboratory tests or specialized tests, may be needed.

Accurate diagnosis helps determine whether lifestyle, physical, psychological factors, or a combination cause ED. Below are examples of contributing factors to ED:

LIFESTYLE HABITS

  • Drugs or substance abuse
  • Excessive alcohol use
  • Lack of exercise
  • Lack of quality sleep
  • Poor diet
  • Smoking

PHYSICAL FACTORS

  • Cardiovascular diseases such as atherosclerosis (clogged arteries), high cholesterol, or hypertension
  • Chronic kidney or liver disease
  • Diabetes
  • Hormonal imbalances like having low testosterone levels or thyroid problems
  • Medications like antidepressants beta-blockers for hypertension or prostate cancer
  • Neurological disorders such as multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, spinal cord injuries, or stroke
  • Obesity
  • Peyronie’s disease

PSYCHOLOGICAL ISSUES

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Relationship problems
  • Stress

Once the cause of ED is determined, your doctor, a qualified medical provider, will recommend the appropriate treatment. In many cases, oral medications are prescribed as the first line of treatment because they are practical and accessible. Once prescribed, Viagra may be secured through legitimate online channels, be sure to take it according to medical guidance to achieve the intended benefits.

Viagra was discovered by accident since it was initially intended as medication for angina. During the clinical trials, Pfizer found that the medication could help improve erections and was then approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on March 7, 1998, as treatment for erectile dysfunction.

Viagra is a type of PDE5 inhibitor which works by enhancing blood flow to the penis and relaxing the smooth muscles in the blood vessels, which can help facilitate an erection when there is sexual stimulation. Many medical providers recommend Viagra since it has been proven to be an effective drug for men with ED.

Viagra is generally safe, but it is not recommended for men with the following conditions:

  • Those who are taking certain medications like nitrates and alpha-blockers or those who are allergic to sildenafil and other components of the medication
  • Those who have severe kidney or liver disease
  • Those who have recently suffered a heart attack or stroke
  • Those who have active peptic ulcers or bleeding disorders
  • Those who have retinal disorders like NAION (non-arteritic anterior ischemic neuropathy) or retinitis pigmentosa
  • Those who have Peyronie’s disease or deformity of the penis
  • Those who have leukemia, multiple myeloma, or sickle cell anemia
  • Those who have low blood pressure

Provide your doctor with all necessary medical details so they can evaluate whether Viagra is right for you or suggest a different treatment plan.

Viagra Side Effects and Proper Management

Like any medication, Viagra can cause side effects, which can range from mild to severe. Here are examples:

MILD SIDE EFFECTS

  1. Dizziness: This is usually caused by lowered blood pressure. Make sure to stay hydrated and avoid alcohol. Sit or lie down and relax if dizziness occurs.
  2. Flushing: This is caused by increased blood flow, especially in the face or neck. To avoid flushing, avoid alcohol or spicy foods and stay in a calm environment.
  3. Headache: The dilation of blood vessels causes this. Drink lots of water and get enough rest. You can also take an OTC pain reliever if the pain gets worse.
  4. Indigestion: The relaxation of the lower esophageal sphincter causes this. Do avoid fatty or heavy meals when taking Viagra, and you can also take antacids if your doctor recommends it.
  5. Nasal Congestion: This is caused by the dilated blood vessels in the nasal passages. Make sure to avoid irritants like strong perfumes or smoke, and you can also use a humidifier or saline nasal spray.

Serious side effects of Viagra are rare, but if they happen, stop taking the medication and get immediate medical assistance. Examples of serious interactions are:

  1. Chest Pain or Heart Attack Symptoms
  2. Priapism (painful and prolonged erection)
  3. Ringing in the Ears or Sudden Hearing Loss
  4. Severe Allergic Reaction
  5. Sudden Vision Loss

Here’s a general guideline on how to properly manage any Viagra side effects:

  1. Follow the prescribed dosage and do not take more than recommended. Do not make any changes to your prescription without the guidance of your doctor.
  2. Limit your alcohol intake, especially on days that you are taking Viagra. Also, do not take recreational drugs since this can worsen side effects like flushing or dizziness.
  3. Make sure to take Viagra at the right time, which is at least 30 minutes before sexual activity. As mentioned, Viagra is best taken on an empty stomach, but if you must eat, make sure to avoid fatty or heavy meals since this can delay the absorption of the medication.
  4. Be mindful of what supplements or other drugs you are taking. It is generally safe to take anti-inflammatory drugs when taking Viagra, but make sure to inform your doctor if you need to take another type of medication so they can check if it does not cause any interactions with Viagra.
  5. Always communicate with your doctor, especially if you experience side effects. Update your doctor on how you respond to the medication or if you think you are not getting the desired results.

Saving Tips for Buying Viagra Online

Now that we’ve covered the essential details about Viagra, check out these practical tips for reducing costs when sourcing it through online pharmacies:

  1. Check with your insurance provider to see if they can cover the cost of the medication. Some insurance companies will cover the cost of generic sildenafil in Canada or at a fraction of the cost.
  2. Opt for the generic version since branded medications like Viagra are usually more expensive. Generic sildenafil contains the same active ingredients as Viagra, but a different company manufactures them. Just make sure that you are getting an FDA-approved generic Viagra so you can get the benefits of the pill.
  3. Take the time to review several online pharmacies and compare their prices. Avoid products sold at really low prices, as you may end up with counterfeit or substandard medication.
  4. Coupons or discount promos are available from online pharmacies. You can also buy in bulk, especially if the company offers huge discounts.
  5. Ask your doctor if you can get a higher dosage and split the tablet.

Saving money is always good, but you must be extra careful when transacting from online sources. Here are some tips to help you have a secure online transaction:

  1. Check the legitimacy of the online pharmacy and see if it is accredited by a local regulatory authority, such as the College of Pharmacies of British Columbia.
  2. Check the website’s security. See if there is an HTTPS or a padlock symbol in the address bar, which indicates that the site has secure payment methods and proper security protocols in place.
  3. Avoid companies that do not ask for a valid prescription, especially for medications like Viagra. They must also have a licensed pharmacist who can assist their customers.
  4. The online pharmacy must have a physical address and other relevant contact details listed on its site. You should be able to contact them when needed.
  5. The products listed on the site must have accurate and complete descriptions, such as dosage or expiration date. Avoid companies that offer too-good-to-be-true deals or prices, as you may get scammed.

Key Takeaways

Viagra has revolutionized the treatment of ED, offering men renewed vigour and confidence. Getting Viagra from certified online pharmacy helps guarantee that you are receiving a clinically approved treatment. However, it is essential to stay alert to the pill’s side effects, which can be minimized with the guidance of your medical provider. By combining wise purchasing practices with informed usage, you can enjoy the benefits of the little blue pill safely and effectively.

The International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF-5) questionnaire below will provide you with a quick result in the form of a score from 5 to 25.

Men with concerns about their erectile function can take this quick test and get some information on whether it might be good to seek help for ED.

What Qualifies as an Erectile Dysfunction Problem?

Most men have experienced some difficulty in getting or keeping an erection. Having trouble when you’re nervous or have had too much to drink may not be something to be concerned about.

It isn’t erectile dysfunction unless you are experiencing ongoing difficulty.

The Canadian Study of Erectile Dysfunction identified 49.4% of men over 40 with ED (Canadian Urological Association erectile dysfunction guideline 2015). Though all men may experience an occasional lapse of sexual function, ED is the persistent inability to achieve an erection, despite being sexually aroused.

IIEF-5 Erectile Dysfunction Questionnaire Scoring

Each of the questions has five possible responses, with score values from one to five.

Your total score is simply the sum of the values of all five answers to the ED test questions.

Possible ED Test Score Ranges

22-25: No erectile dysfunction
17-21: Mild erectile dysfunction
12-16: Mild to moderate erectile dysfunction
8-11: Moderate erectile dysfunction
5-7: Severe erectile dysfunction

The results of this brief self-evaluation should be used as a guide for whether you might want to consult with a doctor, and not as a replacement for a medical consultation.

Take the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF-5) Questionnaire

Answer the five questions and the results will be automatically emailed to you in minutes.

The information you choose to share will be treated as confidential and will not be disclosed to any third parties.

1. How do you rate your confidence that you could get and keep an erection?**
2.When you had erections with sexual stimulation, how often were your erections hard enough for penetration?*
3. During sexual intercourse, how often were you able to maintain your erection after you had penetrated (entered) your partner?*
4. During sexual intercourse, how difficult was it to maintain your erection to completion of intercourse?*
5. When you attempted sexual intercourse, how often was it satisfactory for you?*
