Indications, Dosing, and Interactions of Tadalafil

ED, or erectile dysfunction, is a medical condition affecting millions of men worldwide. It is described as the inability to achieve or maintain an erection sufficient for sexual activity. ED or impotence is common among men, especially as they age. Fortunately, ED is highly manageable, especially when you see your doctor for a complete health assessment. In that way, they can recommend the right course of treatment or prescribe medication such as generic Tadalafil.

Your Easy Guide to Tadalafil

Tadalafil is the active component found in branded ED medications such as Cialis. However, you can also request your doctor to prescribe generic Tadalafil if you want the cheapest alternative to Cialis. Both medicines work the same way because they contain the same component.

Tadalafil can also be prescribed to patients with BPH or benign prostatic hyperplasia, which can help relieve urinary symptoms, and also for PAH or pulmonary arterial hypertension to treat high blood pressure in the arteries.

In this article, we will discuss the function of Tadalafil in terms of treating erectile dysfunction. Here are some quick facts about branded or generic Tadalafil:

Dosage

  • The suggested starting dose for Tadalafil is 10mg and should be taken at least an hour before engaging in sexual activity. Your doctor will check for your response on the recommended dosage and may adjust the dosage if needed to get the desired results.
  • For everyday use, branded or generic Tadalafil dose is at 2.5 or 5 mg. It is best to follow your doctor’s recommendations and never take more or less of what is prescribed. Also, do not stop taking Tadalafil unless directed by your healthcare provider.
  • If you are prescribed to take Tadalafil daily, and you missed a dose, make sure to take a pill right away. But if you are already scheduled to take the medication, skip the missed dose since you should never double your dosages to avoid interactions.
  • Tadalafil can be taken with or without food.

Precautions

  • Branded or generic Cialis Canada is generally inappropriate for most men, and only your doctor can determine if you can benefit from the medication. Make sure to inform your doctor if you have any existing medical conditions such as heart problems, a history of heart attack or stroke, liver or kidney problems, or low blood pressure.
  • Your doctor will not prescribe Tadalafil if you take nitrates such as nitroglycerin for your chest pain. The combination of Tadalafil and nitrates can cause a sudden drop in low blood pressure, leading to serious medical complications.
  • Tadalafil may also interact with other drugs, such as alpha-blockers, antihypertensives or medicines that can increase QT interval.
  • You must also inform your doctor if you take other OTC medications, herbal products and supplements.

Side Effects

  • Back Pain
  • Dizziness
  • Flushing
  • Headache
  • Indigestion
  • Muscle aches
  • Nasal congestion

Uncommon but serious side effects may include chest pain, priapism (prolonged and painful erection) and sudden hearing or vision loss. Seek medical assistance immediately if you experience such rare side effects or if they already cause pain or discomfort.

Overdose

Overdose symptoms include severe dizziness, fainting or priapism. Get to a hospital immediately if you suspect you have already overdosed on branded or generic Tadalafil.

Storage

  • Store Tadalafil at room temperature, preferably away from heat and moisture.
  • Store the pills away from children and pets.

Choosing Between Branded or Generic Tadalafil

Tadalafil can only be secured if you have a valid prescription. Do not use versions of Tadalafil that do not require any prescription since these medications may not be legitimate and will cause more harm than good.

How to Properly Take Tadalafil

Just like any other medication, it is essential to take generic Tadalafil correctly to ensure its potency and lessen the risk of side effects. Here’s your quick guide on how to take Tadalafil:

  • Get a prescription from your doctor. They will first evaluate your condition and determine if the medication will be proper for you.
  • Take the medication as prescribed. Follow the recommended dosage to ensure you experience the best results.
  • Take the medicine at the right time. Do not make any adjustments to your dosage without checking with your doctor. The effects of branded or generic Tadalafil in Canada can last up to 36 hours, which has earned its name “the weekend pill.”
  • If you are prescribed to take the medication daily, make sure to take it at the same time every day, even if you are not going to engage in any sexual activity.
  • Take the tablet as a whole with water. Please do not take any alcohol since it can reduce the strength of the drug and increase the chances of side effects. Also, do not take with grapefruit juice since it can cause an interaction with Tadalafil.
  • Do not take other ED medications when taking Tadalafil unless recommended by your doctor.
  • Keep track of your usage. Store Tadalafil properly or buy a pill organizer. Set a daily reminder of when to take Tadalafil if you are advised to take it daily.
  • Tadalafil will only work effectively if there is sexual stimulation or when you are aroused. Keep in mind that the medication is not an aphrodisiac, so you need to come up with ways to spice things up in the bedroom.

Final Notes

If you feel that Tadalafil is not working for you, consult your doctor immediately so they can adjust the dosage or prescribe a different drug or treatment option. It is essential to listen to your doctor’s advice and never self-medicate.

You can also do your due diligence by researching Tadalafil and other treatments for ED. You can also ask your doctor to prescribe the cheapest alternative to branded drugs, such as generic Tadalafil, so that you can save money. Secure the medicines from a reputable pharmacy to ensure their legitimacy and effectiveness.

The International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF-5) questionnaire below will provide you with a quick result in the form of a score from 5 to 25.

Men with concerns about their erectile function can take this quick test and get some information on whether it might be good to seek help for ED.

What Qualifies as an Erectile Dysfunction Problem?

Most men have experienced some difficulty in getting or keeping an erection. Having trouble when you’re nervous or have had too much to drink may not be something to be concerned about.

It isn’t erectile dysfunction unless you are experiencing ongoing difficulty.

The Canadian Study of Erectile Dysfunction identified 49.4% of men over 40 with ED (Canadian Urological Association erectile dysfunction guideline 2015). Though all men may experience an occasional lapse of sexual function, ED is the persistent inability to achieve an erection, despite being sexually aroused.

IIEF-5 Erectile Dysfunction Questionnaire Scoring

Each of the questions has five possible responses, with score values from one to five.

Your total score is simply the sum of the values of all five answers to the ED test questions.

Possible ED Test Score Ranges

22-25: No erectile dysfunction
17-21: Mild erectile dysfunction
12-16: Mild to moderate erectile dysfunction
8-11: Moderate erectile dysfunction
5-7: Severe erectile dysfunction

The results of this brief self-evaluation should be used as a guide for whether you might want to consult with a doctor, and not as a replacement for a medical consultation.

Take the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF-5) Questionnaire

Answer the five questions and the results will be automatically emailed to you in minutes.

The information you choose to share will be treated as confidential and will not be disclosed to any third parties.

1. How do you rate your confidence that you could get and keep an erection?**
2.When you had erections with sexual stimulation, how often were your erections hard enough for penetration?*
3. During sexual intercourse, how often were you able to maintain your erection after you had penetrated (entered) your partner?*
4. During sexual intercourse, how difficult was it to maintain your erection to completion of intercourse?*
5. When you attempted sexual intercourse, how often was it satisfactory for you?*
